Notes from the Field: Curating Our Next Treasure

Last month, Allison and Deb braved the wintery weather of PEI, exploring every corner of the island to ensure it perfectly captured the essence of a Divine Revive Retreat . They wandered along its iconic red-sand beaches, which were dusted with a light blanket of snow, connected with local elders, wellness practitioners, and even a celebrity chef, and unearthed the island’s most charming hidden spots. Every experience was handpicked to blend relaxation, discovery, and cultural immersion.

A Hidden Gem Discovered

It wasn’t just about the landscapes or the peaceful solitude; it was about the people. One of the most memorable moments from the trip came when Allison reflected on the island’s spirit:

"What really stood out was how many young people who had left for cities like Toronto and Calgary were now returning home to take over their family businesses and make them their own. A perfect example of this is Joey, the lobster fisherman, whose daughter has now taken the reins and brought a whole new dimension to their lobster fishing company: Joey’s Deep Sea Fishing. She’s opening up the experience to visitors, allowing them to get a first-hand look at what it’s like to go out on the lobster boat, set traps, and catch lobsters themselves. While we couldn’t get out on the water due to the winter weather, we explored Joey’s dry-docked boat and stood on the ladder, imagining what it would be like on the lobster fishing excursion. Joey even shared where to find the best lobster rolls on the island for our guests. He had the same voice as the captain from JAWS but with a twinkle in his eye, understated  charm…and of course a PEI accent! "

In a fun moment, Allison joked with Joey that he’d have to join us this summer and entertain our travelers on our lobster fishing excursion with a song or two. Joey laughed and said,

"If I start singing, everyone will jump overboard!"
